Volcanic Ash and Air Travel: A Double Edged Sword Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its budget arm Scoot have canceled 31 flights between Singapore and Jakarta due to the ongoing eruption of Indonesia's Mount Anak Krakatau.
The volcano has been spewing ash and smoke into the atmosphere, posing a significant threat to air travel in the region. Volcanic ash is notoriously difficult to deal with when it comes to aircraft performance.
The tiny particles can infiltrate engines and cause serious damage, not to mention posing a risk to human safety.
