Armed men, allegedly linked to local groups and possibly even state sponsored militias, have been wreaking havoc on villages and mosques, leaving a trail of fear and uncertainty.

The attacks on Kpenya Mosque and surrounding villages in Niger State are all too familiar. Dozens of people were taken hostage, with reports suggesting more than 60 worshippers were kidnapped.
